Lot for House Number 10

Homeowner Update - June, 2008
We received the construction permit for House #10, and we are happy to report that construction of the  structure is now underway.

This year we are promoting an Apostles Build wherein we locate 12 local churches and/or businesses who wish to volunteer to make the dream of 'self-help home ownership' a reality. Each church or business sponsors a 'build day'. On the assigned day, the church or business provides willing hands and big hearts to help make the dream of home ownership a reality for a needy working family in our community. Businesses provide lunch for their volunteers and other work crew members and spend the morning building side-by-side with our family of homeowners who invest 'sweat equity' in the new home they will occupy.
We are happy to report that Angela has served 116 of her 400 hours of required sweat equity to complete her family homeownership contract.

On Saturday May 31st,  the Verde Baptist Church was on the job site.  It was a great day.  Below you will find photos of generous volunteers who were on site to lend a hand.

On June 7th, the First Southern Baptist Church participated in an Apostles' Build, providing much needed, much appreciated help to help us complete the home for our grateful family.

The Genesis Worldwide build day was very successful.  The dedication of the volunteer participants was inspiring. As you can see from the pictures below, the assistance we receive really does make a difference.  Just look at the progress we are making!

Angela’s children have grown a bit but they are still as excited about the prospects of their own home as they were back in 2004, and very soon this new home will be a reality.  Beaver Creek Elementary school sits right next to their new home, so there will be no playing hooky for these kids!  Angela has continued to practice the money management skills she learned over the past few years while attending financial classes sponsored by Verde Valley Habitat for Humanity and we are happy to report that she has very little debt.  We hope to bring her new home mortgage payment - including property taxes and home owners insurance - down to about 30% of her income, and in twenty years her home will be her legacy to her children.  Angela has completed about 100 hours of her 400 hour “sweat equity” requirement, and she has over half of her down payment deposited.  What a great way to start the New Year!

As you read Angela's story, we hope you will be moved to volunteer your time to help us prepare the site and build Angela's new home.

Past Projects

House Nine

It is with great satisfaction that the Verde Valley Habitat for Humanity introduces our newest Homeowner Family to our supporters. Dusti “Marie” Menges and her children Yvonne and Ezra are the proud new owners of VVHFH House #9. Marie is a single mom who works in the food industry and supplements her income by working for a local homebound health care provider.  She is one on the go mom who really has a great attitude about life and who is truly a deserving soul.  Marie completed many more hours than the minimum of 400 hours of sweat equity building on her home as required in her contract.  Most of our Habitat homeowners are in our program for 9-12 months prior to their homes completion.

The Menges family signed their Contract of Intent on November 15, 2006.  The footings for her home were poured on November 17, 2006. The home was awarded a Certificate of Occupancy on February 28, 2007 by Yavapai County, and we will dedicate her home on April 7, 2007.  This is record time for a home construction and it was due to the tremendous support Marie brought with her to this labor of love.  On behalf of Marie and her Family Thank you to all our supporters and volunteers.

House Eight

House # 8 is a 1200 sq. ft, three bedroom, one and one half bath home located at 5625 N. Kramer in Rimrock. The owner  is Anna Lookhart and her three boys. Anna has worked and lived in the Verde Valley all her life and had many members of her family and friends help to build her house of love.  Volunteers from the Grand Canyon Rotary  and over 30 members of Sedona Verde Valley Realtors helped Anna's house become a reality.  Anna and her boys send a  big Thank You to Lumbermens, who is a national supporter of Habitat for Humanity.
