COMMITTEES
Construction CommitteeThis committee is devoted to all aspects of actual home construction, from managing the logistics of material donations to coordinating volunteer efforts to collaborating with the selected families as they work off their "sweat equity" hours. Material donations must be acquired throughout the construction process, and interactions with local building code inspectors must be coordinated and streamlined.
Site Selection CommitteeThe Site Selection Committee develops, for approval by the Board of Directors, criteria for the selection of sites to be used for houses for Verde Valley Habitat for Humanity. The committee works closely with the Construction Committee by targeting the areas in which Habitat will build houses; investigateing alternate site possibilities; recommending to the Board property that is readily available for acquisition and is affordable; determining the feasibility of recommended properties by having titles searched, examining appropriate zoning laws, checking for accessibility of utilities, and drainage, moisture, and other possible environmental problems; and obtaining approved properties for construction or rehabilitation.
Family Selection and Support CommitteesGreat care is taken to assure that the organization selects appropriate candidates for Habitat housing. Though, unfortunately, there is no lack of local families in need, the Habitat family selection guidelines are intended to offer assistance to those families who are at or near the point of home-ownership readiness, but who are financially unable to meet the traditional mortgage requirements in today's real estate market. The Verde Valley Habitat for Humanity affiliate (chapter) must adhere not only to the Habitat for Humanity International rules, but must also comply with certain federal and state laws; such requirements impinge upon the family selection process. The Family Selection Committee considers applicants for participation in the affordable homeownership program. Committee members review loan applications, conduct home interviews, and make recommendations to the Board of Directors. The Family Support Committee committee is still in the development phase and will be responsible for communicating with partner families after they have moved into their home to ensure they are adjusting to homeownership.
Faith Relations CommitteeThe purpose of the Faith Relations Committee is to engage congregations of all faiths to support Habitat’s mission and strengthen support of the affiliate’s work by gaining volunteers, prayers, and financial resources from the faith communities of the Verde Valley.
Fundraising CommitteeFinding sources of funding to support our home-building efforts requires patience, savvy, persistence and creativity. One tool we use is the "Carpenters Club." Members make monthly donations of $10 or more. Building membership in the Carpenters Club will help Verde Valley Habitat with maintaining a better operating cash flow.
Public Information CommitteeThe more visible Verde Valley Habitat is in its constituent communities, the more successfully it can achieve its mission to provide affordable, decent housing to those in need. Publicity means getting the word out-- an ongoing effort requiring determination and perseverance. These efforts include a quarterly newsletter, website, PSAs and speaking engagements.
Volunteer Relations CommitteeThe Volunteer Relations Committee is responsible for the volunteer needs of VVHFH. These activities include soliciting new volunteers, keeping volunteers informed, addressing affiliate volunteer needs to support day-to-day activities and scheduled events, sustaining a volunteer recognition and reward program, providing outlets of new leadership and responsibility to current volunteers and maintaining all volunteer forms, time tracking documents, volunteer policies, etc.
